Ashirbad S Raha
Ashirbad S. Raha is Communications Director, Global Initiatives, at the University of Chicago’s Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth. He leads communications for the Institute’s global initiatives, such as EPIC’s Clean Air Program, the Climate Impact Lab and the Emissions Market Accelerator, and for its research partnerships in India, including EPIC India.
He has spent close to two decades in journalism and in climate and energy communications. Ashirbad began as a reporter at The Times of India and worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross and The Climate Group. At EPIC India, he was the first communications hire and built the function. Under his leadership, EPIC’s research has found readers across South Asia and has been referenced in India’s Parliament, carried by national newsrooms and brought to COP through film.
Ashirbad believes climate communication remains one of the most underbuilt parts of climate action, especially in the Global South. Good research exists but too little of it reaches the people who decide. He writes for national newspapers and mentors early-career journalists and climate communicators to help close that gap. In 2025, ENERSIDER named him one of its Top-50 Next-Gen Energy Leaders for his work in energy communications.
He holds a degree in journalism from the University of Delhi and a postgraduate diploma from the Times Centre for Media Studies. He has completed online executive programmes at the University of Oxford and Harvard University. He is based in New Delhi.
